Posted By Barnaby

Today’s match went into the history books as Ebbsfleet United played their first game under that name. After attacking play by the Fleet, the first goal for Ebbsfleet United turned out to be an own goal by Welling as a defender passed the ball back to former Gravesend & Northfleet keeper Jamie Turner who’s hands were too forceful pushing the ball back into the net. The game quietened down during the second half and the match finished with Fleet winning 1-0.

GNFC Becomes Ebbsfleet United

Posted by BarnabyDuring a consultation meeting last night with fans it was announced that the name Gravesend and Northflet F.C. had been changed to Ebbsfleet United F.C. The directors of the club cited the changing scene of the local area as one of the key reasons for the name change; in order to adapt to significant new housing developments and the prescence of an international railway station half a kilometer away, they felt that a change of name was neccesary to reflect these developments. The club will continue to use the colours red and white as their home strip and the badge will remain the same with just the words “Gravesend & Northfleet” changed to “Ebbsfleet United.” The name change came into effect yesterday as authorised by the FA.
